Odisha Judiciary 2025: 78 Civil Judge Vacancies Announced – Apply Before It’s Too Late

The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has released an official advertisement for the recruitment of Civil Judges (Junior Division) in the Odisha Judicial Service for the year 2025. This is Advertisement No. 02 of 2026-27, published on 30th April 2026. A total of 78 posts have been announced under the Law Department, Government of Odisha.

The PwBD category covers candidates with Blindness and Low Vision, Orthopedically Handicapped, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing candidates with suitable aid. Additionally, candidates with disabilities such as OA (One Arm), OL (One Leg), BL (Both Legs), OAL, LC (Leprosy Cured), Dw (Dwarfism), AAV (Acid Attack Victims), SLD (Specific Learning Disabilities), and MD (Multiple Disabilities) are entitled to appear, as per the relevant government notification.

The selected candidates will be appointed in the pay scale of Rs. 77,840 to Rs. 1,36,520, along with dearness and other allowances as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha.

Who Can Apply? Age and Qualification  

Age Limit

As of 1st April 2025, candidates must be at least 23 years old and not more than 42 years old. This means a candidate must not have been born before 2nd April 1983, and not after 1st April 2002.

Age relaxation is available in the following cases:

  • 5 years of relaxation for SC, ST, SEBC, Women, Ex-servicemen, and Commissioned / Short Service Commission Officers of the Defense Services
  • 10 years of relaxation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (in addition to normal relaxation for SC/ST/SEBC categories)
  • 7 years of relaxation for candidates who have service experience as a Law Clerk or Research Assistant to any Judge, Judicial Officer, or Constitutional Authority

Candidates will get only one age relaxation benefit, whichever is the most beneficial. The date of birth as entered in the High School Certificate or its equivalent will be the final record accepted by the Commission.

Educational Qualification

A candidate must hold a graduate degree in Law from a recognized university or institution recognized by the Government. Along with the degree, the candidate must have at least 3 years of practice as an advocate as of 1st April 2025.

Candidates who have worked as a Law Clerk or Research Assistant to a Judge, Judicial Officer, or any Constitutional Authority in the country can count that period towards their legal practice requirement.

Other Eligibility Conditions  

Apart from age and qualification, candidates must also meet these requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of India
  • Must be of good character, sound health, and free from any organic defect or physical infirmity
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write Odia fluently, and must have passed an Odia language examination at the Middle English School standard (Class/Standard-VII level) or equivalent
  • A candidate with more than one living spouse is not eligible for appointment unless the State Government has granted an exemption for good and sufficient reasons
  • Government servants applying for this post must inform their respective Head of Office in writing and must furnish a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the time of document verification
  • Any candidate who has been debarred by OPSC, any other State Public Service Commission, or UPSC for a specific period is not eligible to apply during that period

Examination Fee  

Candidates other than SC, ST, and PwD categories are required to pay an examination fee of Rs. 700, payable online while filling the application form.

The fee will be refunded only to those candidates who actually appear in the Preliminary Written Examination. Applications submitted without payment of the examination fee (except SC, ST, and PwD candidates) will be treated as incomplete and rejected outright.

Refunds will be processed through the original mode of payment used during the transaction, such as Credit Card, Debit Card, UPI, Net Banking, or Wallet. Candidates must provide their bank account details, including the Account Number, IFSC Code, Name of the Account Holder, and Name of the Bank branch, in the online application form.

Application Dates and How to Apply  

The online application link will be available on the OPSC website from 8th May 2026 to 8th June 2026 (5:00 PM). This is the last date and closing time for submission of registered online applications.

Applications must be submitted only through the official OPSC website at https://opsc.gov.in. Applications received through any other mode will not be accepted and will be summarily rejected.

Before filling the form, candidates must go through all the detailed instructions available on the OPSC portal. Once submitted, if a candidate wants to make any correction, they must cancel the application and apply again within the last date. No changes will be possible after the closing date.

Candidates must upload a scanned passport-size photograph, scanned signature, and scanned Left-hand Thumb Impression (LTI) in the application form. All three must be clearly identifiable, otherwise the application is liable for rejection.

After successful registration, a unique Permanent Public Service Account Number (PPSAN) will be assigned to each candidate. Candidates should take a printout of the submitted application form for future reference.

Exam Date  

The Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be held on 5th July 2026 (Sunday). The detailed schedule and examination centres will be notified by OPSC in due course.

Grounds for Rejection  

Candidates should be careful while filling the application. OPSC can reject an application on several grounds, including:

  • Incomplete online application form
  • Non-payment of examination fee (except SC/ST/PwD)
  • Age limit not met as per the notification
  • Required qualification not completed by the submission date
  • Missing certificates or documents as required under the advertisement
  • Failing to pass the Odia test or not furnishing the required Odia pass certificate
  • Submission of wrong or false information
  • Application received through any mode other than the official OPSC website
